The Enchanted Wood - the beginning.

The Enchanted Wood

Once upon a time, (as all good stories must start) in a land not too much unlike your own, there lived a princess. If one were to look at her solely on the outside, one would never be able to tell she was a princess for she neither dressed nor acted like one. That would come in time. Her father, the King owned all the land as far as the eye could see. Because the princess was his only child, she would eventually own all the land as he did. Every so often he would take her out upon the highest tower of the castle, to the best view, and would say, “My darling, one day, when I am dead, this kingdom shall all be yours. Please take good care of the land I have bestowed upon you. Choose a fair, wise, loyal Prince to become the King, and rule the land together with grace and gentleness.”
To which the young princess would respond, “But Papa, I don’t care about becoming Queen, or having a prince, and the land is just dirt. It means nothing to me, I long to fly among the clouds with the birds.”
The King in his wisdom would laugh lovingly and say, “My dear, someday someone will touch your heart, and then you will think differently.”
The princess would scoff wink at her father, her eyes sparkling and run as fast as she could down the stairs knowing that soon her father would be chasing after her and they would end up outside in a rolling, giggling, tickling heap.
Now, the princess was her father’s only child, and he was her only parent, for her mother had died in an accident while she was a very small child.
